There are over hundred types of rheumatic disease which is a common health problem. Removing or controlling the underlying causes is only possible by taking the necessary measures in due time. Correct diagnosis is very important in this regard, as it is the case for each health problem.

While this group of diseases may exacerbate or worsen by age, rheumatic diseases are also seen in the young age group.

Patient-doctor cooperation is considered as a factor increasing the success rate in the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases.

A common disease; arthritis
One of the most common problems regarding rheumatic diseases is arthritis. Arthritis is divided into two conditions, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis can be seen in all age groups and the incidence is three times higher in female subjects than the male subjects.

Rheumatoid arthritis is seen in young and middle-age groups in general. On the other side, osteoarthritis affects the elderly population.

Immune system problems are the leading causes among the general causes of rheumatic diseases. Rheumatoid arthritis causes tissue swelling due to inflammation in joints.  It affects the fingers, wrists, elbows, knees and ankles the most.

Osteoarthritis is seen in elderly people who have injured their joints for any reason. Osteoarthritis is an illness, which is seen in almost each elderly person (even if in milder forms), and it is considered as fatigue of joints.
Osteoarthritis is usually manifested in the joints that carry the body weight such as hip, knees, feet and backbone.
Joints are the junctures of two bones and enable the body to move. For this reason, diseases occurring in joints negatively affect movement and the daily life accordingly.

Since these are painful illnesses, pain killer should be used in treatment.
However, regular activity is required in order to eliminate or minimize its effects. Since rheumatoid arthritis also causes swelling, medical treatment targets both pain and swelling.

The second part of the treatment is composed of facilitating mobility in joints. The immobile joints causes hardening of joints and movement difficulty by time. This risk is prevented through regular activity.
In this respect, exercise is important for each age group in order to maintain life quality or to improve the poor life quality.

The treatment of these diseases involve three phases, including not getting too tired, exercise and pain control.
