Dr. Madhav Rao is a Consultant Ophthalmologist / Vitreo-Retinal Surgeon with more than 12 years of clinical and surgical experience after completing his post-graduate degree. He finished his MBBS at Kuvempu University, Karnataka, India in 1996 and his MS in Ophthalmology at Saurashtra University, Gujarat, India in 2000. A year later, he qualified for a Diploma in Ophthalmology from Government of India’s National Board of Examination. In 2002, he became a fellow of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Glasgow) and a fellow of Sankara Nethralaya, India where he is involved with surgical and medical diseases of vitreo-retina. He also became a member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, India in 2003. He has clinical attachments with hospitals such as Sankara Nethralaya, India and Dhahran Eye Specialist Hospital, KSA - the only tertiary referral eye hospital in Eastern province of KSA. Then, he moved and continued his practice in UAE as a Consultant Ophthalmologist / Vitreo-Retinal Surgeon and spearheaded the establishment of a complete vitreo-retinal department (Center of Excellence in Ophthalmology) in a multi-specialty hospital in Abu Dhabi. To his credit, Dr. Madhav has authored several research publications and made several presentations about medical and surgical retina. Currently, he is an international member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, where he received various awards: International Ophthalmologist Education Award in 2010 and International Ophthalmology Scholar Award in 2011.
