Liver

The liver is the second largest organ in the body after all. It lies beneath your right lung and is protected by the lower ribs on this side. The liver is divided into two main lobes called the right and left lobes. Each of these lobes is also segmented.

The liver is the chemical factory of the body. Some of them perform a number of important tasks, such as:

 Storing some food items

Energizing the oils when the body needs it

Production of saffron, a substance that helps digestion and the absorption of foods

 Protein construction

 Promoting blood clotting

Production of other substances needed by the body

Destruction of harmful substances including alcohol, waste products of many drugs and normal body processes

Liver cancer risks and causes

Primary liver cancer is relatively rare. Men are more common than women. About 1 out of every 100 cancers diagnosed is primary liver cancer.

Any factor that increases your risk of getting a disease is defined as a risk factor. Risk factors for liver cancer; Scarring from a previously infected victim (cirrhosis), hepatitis virus infection, the intake of anabolic steroids, family history of cancer at the liver, and cigarette use. People who are infected with the hepatitis B or C virus are at higher risk of developing liver cancer if they smoke it.

Other possible risk factors include arsenic, diabetes, overweight, poor immunity, and some types of birth control pills, which are poisons in drinking water in some developing countries.

Liver cancer indication

The indication for primary liver cancer includes the following factors:

Significant weight loss for unexplained reasons

Loss of appetite for several weeks

 Sick feeling

Even if there are very few meals, feeling tired and bloated after meals

 Abdominal discomfort or pain

 A swollen abdomen (abdomen)

Yellowish skin (jaundice), dark urine and pale stool

 Itching

Sudden deterioration in the health of a person with chronic hepatitis or cirrhosis

 High fever and sweating

Most of these symptoms are uncertain and may be due to other conditions, such as infection. However, if you have any of these symptoms, you should see your doctor.

Liver cancer screening

Scanning; At an early stage of the disease, before the symptoms begin.

Before screening for any type of cancer, doctors need to have a definitive test. The test should be reliable in terms of catching the disease and should not give false positive results to people who do not have cancer. There is no reliable screening test yet to be used for primary liver cancer in the whole population.

Scanning for people with a higher risk of getting any rare cancer is the most cost-effective way to go. We know that there is a group of people at higher risk for liver cancer. If you have cirrhosis (liver damage), your doctor may recommend you to take a test every 6 months.
