KOÇ UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL

Research & Innovation

As one of the newest schools of medicine in Turkey, we started our first academic year in 2010 – 2011. Our objective is to train the students of Koç University School of Medicine as doctors, who are concerned with the health problems of the 21st century and who can generate medical solutions under the guidance of science.

Koç University Hospital became operational in September 2014 as a research and training hospital. With the completion of the second phase of the Health Sciences Campus, the hospital increased its capacity to 404 inpatient rooms and 73 intensive care unit beds.

With 220.000 m2 net area, Health Sciences Campus including medical school, nursing school, research laboratories and advanced learning centers aims to contribute to qualified human capital in healthcare sector with its innovative approach and dynamic team at North American standards.

Koç University

Koç University founded in 1993, as a non-profit private university in Istanbul, Turkey. Koç University strives to be a center of excellence, one that succeeds in providing a world-class education to its students, creating new knowledge via the research of its faculty, applying the acquired knowledge for the benefit of society, and equipping its students with the highest sense of ethics, social responsibility and good citizenship.

Vehbi Koç Foundation

Since its inception in 1969, the Vehbi Koç Foundation has set a new standard for excellence in philanthropy. Guided by its mission to address the fundamental needs of life for a modern and developing Turkey through the promotion of education, health and culture, the foundation’s achievements include the creation of a world-class hospital, museums that preserve and highlight Turkish culture and elite academic institutions at all levels. Vehbi Koç had a passionate commitment to educating youth. In his words, "If we look around us today, we see that countries of the modern world are making rapid advances in all areas of science and are racing towards new discoveries in outer space. In order for us to close the gap and in preparation for the future, we must educate our young people in the best way possible."

In the early 1980s, the Management of the Foundation entered into an intensive working period in order to realize well-funded and well-organized projects in the areas it worked on. Experiences were showing that keeping an artwork alive is as much important as creating that artwork. Therefore, the Foundation would assume the responsibility of operation of the premises it established by planning down to the last detail, so that it maintains the quality of services rendered by these institutions at the highest level. It would act as a model for the society with its institutions, each of which has turned into a center of excellence. Institutions of the Foundation, which were established based on this approach, continue their studies with the aim to light the way for the educational, health and cultural world in Turkey.

In addition to the institutions serving its reason of existence, Vehbi Koç Foundation provides the public with its large-scale projects. Vehbi Koç Foundation aims to contribute to the rapid development of Turkey and to serve the country by setting an example for “the best” in all of its activities and via sustainable and reproducible models.
