The main reason of the pain around the eyes is refractive errors. Headache, eye pain and neck aches are the main problems caused by not using the needed spectacles. Apart from that, dry eye is another frequent reason of the eye pain. Exhausting the eyes by working with dim light, an infection in any part of the eyes, foreign body inside the eye, sinusitis, headaches such as migraine , and febrile illnesses may cause eye pain.

REFRACTIVE ERRORS

Especially, in hidden hyperopia and astigmatism, eyes get tired and pain spreading between the eyebrows is present.

WEAK MUSCLES

Weakness of the muscles that are active while reading, can lead to overwork of other muscles and pain.

DRY EYE

When a person with dry eyes, performs actions that may cause additional dryness, it can lead to eye pain.

CHALAZION

Formed as a local inflammation of the eyelid the chalazion, may cause severe pain.

CORNEAL SCARRING

In case of a scar or defect in the transparent part of the eye by any means, it causes severe pain.

FOREIGN BODY

Any foreign body, located on the transparent part of the eyes or under the eyelids, touching the transparent layer may lead to eye pain. The pain is particularly felt in the upper lids.

KERATITIS

It is the infection of cornea. Bacteria, parasites viruses and fungus can make infection in the transparent layer of the eyes.

UVEITIS

The infection inside the eye can cause eye pain by contracting the pupil muscles.

GLAUCOMA (EYE PRESSURE)

Even though it is a sinister disease, the eye pressure patients may have vague eye pain complaints. However, in extreme intraocular pressure rise, it causes quite severe eye pain, followed by nausea and vomiting.

OPTIC NEURITIS

It is a disease with optic nerve involvement. The pain gets sharper with eye movements. It may be associated with diseases such as multiple sclerosis.

REFLECTING PAIN

Diseases stemming from the neighboring areas of the eye can also cause eye pain. Sinusitis, dental inflammation, migraine, cluster-type headaches are examples of this.

THE TREATMENT OF THE EYE PAIN

If it not caused by an underlying disease, the best remedy for eye pain is resting. Sitting in front of screens such as, computers, smartphones, televisions etc. for long periods causes eye tiredness. While reading, arranging the ideal lighting level is important to prevent exhaustion of the eyes.  In the patients with contact lenses, using spectacles time to time for the healing and resting of the cornea is important. Additionally, regular eye check-up for the detection and diagnosis of a possible disease is important for everyone.
